  2. This is an NNTP newsreader for Microsoft Windows 3.X.  You can use it
  3. to read and post Usenet News.
  4.  
  5. Requirements:
  6.  
  7.    A DEC Pathworks or Microsoft LanManager compatible WSOCKETS.DLL
  8.    Dynamic Link Library.  Make sure Windows can find it.  (set your
  9.    PATH environment variable).
  10.  
  11.    An NNTP News Server.  It *must* support the XHDR call (most do).
  12.    I've developed this with ANU News, a VMS news package, but any
  13.    should work.

  15.    A 'NEWSRC' file.  An example is provided.  You *must* have the
  16.    file there; WinVN won't write one out just randomly.  It can be
  17.    empty.

  19.    A 'WINVN.INI' file.  Edit this file to point to your news server,
  20.    or you can later change parameters from within WinVN.

  22.    A 'WINVN' environment variable, telling WinVN where to find its
  23.    two configuration files: 'WINVN.INI' and 'NEWSRC'.  You have to
  24.    set this variable BEFORE you start up windows.

  27. The on-line documentation no longer matches the program exactly,
  28. but is pretty close.  The 'Reply by Mail' options were removed,
  29. since they seemed to use a non-standard NNTP extension.

  31. There are bugs.

  33. There are scroll bugs.
  34. There are strange bugs.

  36. For the most part, though, this is useable.  So why horde it?
